Active powered PA speaker for live sound

Active speakers (also called powered speakers) have a built-in amplifier, meaning they don’t require a separate external amp. You can plug your sound source directly into the speaker and start playing.

Because of their simple setup, powered speakers are popular for DJs, live gigs, PA systems, events, and portable sound systems.

What Is an Active Speaker?

An active speaker is a loudspeaker with its own amplifier built inside the cabinet. Instead of sending power from a separate amplifier, the speaker powers itself once connected to mains electricity.

Active speakers are designed for convenience and fast setup:

✅ Built-in amplifier
❌ No external amp required
🔌 Connects directly to power
🔊 Produces sound on its own

How Do Active Speakers Work?

The signal flow for powered speakers is simple and quick to set up:

1. Plug your microphone, instrument, or music player into a mixer
2. Connect the speaker to power
3. Run an XLR cable from the mixer to the speaker
4. Turn it on and play sound

This straightforward setup is why powered speakers are widely used in live sound and portable PA systems.
